How VidTier handles your account, ratings, submissions, and browser preferences.

Who we are

VidTier is a catalogue for discovering and rating long-form YouTube videos. VidTier is operated by Dmitrii Magas. For privacy questions or requests, email dmitrii@eamag.me.

Information we collect

  • Google sign-in: your Google account identifier, name, email address, email verification status, and profile picture when provided. The authentication system can store the tokens and expiry details returned by Google to complete sign-in. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Your activity: video ratings, submitted video or channel links, suggested tags and other submission details you provide, and their creation and update times. Submission records also include moderation decisions.
  • Session and technical data: session identifiers, expiry times, and technical information such as your IP address and browser user agent. Hosting and authentication services process request information to deliver and secure the service.
  • Support: information you choose to include when you contact us.

Browsing the catalogue does not require an account. Signing in is needed to associate ratings and submissions with your account. VidTier requests only basic Google sign-in permissions: openid, email, and profile. It does not request access to your Gmail, Drive files, contacts, or private YouTube account activity.

How we use information

We use account and session information to sign you in, maintain your session, and protect accounts. We use ratings to show your saved scores and calculate public video scores. We use submissions to maintain the catalogue and review proposed content. We use support messages to respond to you.

Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis, account features are provided to perform our agreement with you; security and abuse prevention serve our legitimate interests; and processing required by law is based on that legal obligation. Where processing requires consent, you may withdraw that consent.

VidTier does not sell Google user data or use it for advertising or AI model training. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements where applicable.

What others can see

Video score averages and rating counts are public. Your account email and personal ratings list are not published as a public profile. Approved video and channel entries and their catalogue tags are public. Submission notes and moderation records are available to authorised curators who manage submissions.

People administering VidTier may access account and activity records when necessary for support, security, moderation, or legal obligations. Information may also be disclosed when required by law.

Cookies and browser storage

VidTier uses cookies for authentication and to remember your selected catalogue language. The language preference cookie lasts up to one year. Browser local storage remembers watched video identifiers and display preferences on that device; this local watch history is not synced to your VidTier account.

A rating selected before sign-in can be stored in local and session storage so it can be saved after you return. The app accepts this pending rating for up to ten minutes; an expired stored entry may remain until it is replaced or your site data is cleared. You can remove local preferences and history by clearing VidTier's site data in your browser. Blocking authentication cookies can prevent sign-in.

Service providers and YouTube

  • Cloudflare provides application hosting and database infrastructure. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Google provides sign-in, Google One Tap, and web fonts. Requests for these services can share technical information, such as your IP address, with Google. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • YouTube provides video metadata, thumbnails, and video playback. Thumbnail requests reach YouTube even before playback. The embedded player is loaded after you choose to play a video and uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain. Playback can still involve data collection, browser storage, and advertising controlled by YouTube.

VidTier uses YouTube API Services. Google's processing of information through those services is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Submitted YouTube links may be used to fetch public metadata from YouTube; your VidTier ratings and submission notes are not sent as part of those metadata requests.

Our service providers operate internationally and may process information outside your country. Their privacy notices describe their processing and safeguards.

Retention and your choices

Account information, ratings, and submission records are retained to provide your account and catalogue features until you request deletion, subject to information needed for security or legal obligations. Session access ends when the session expires or is revoked; expiry alone does not guarantee that its database record has been erased. Local browser preferences remain until you change or clear them.

You can remove individual ratings from My ratings. To request account deletion, a copy of your data, correction, or another privacy action, email dmitrii@eamag.me from your account email address. We may need to verify your identity. There is currently no self-service account deletion button.

You can also remove VidTier's Google access through your Google Account connections. Removing Google access does not itself delete data already held by VidTier; please contact us for that.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to processing, or obtain a portable copy of your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Policy updates

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will be brought to your attention in the service when appropriate.
